Are Gaining Weight And Irregular Periods Related?

Hi. I might be just a worry wart mom...but I have a 28 year old daughter...single..not living at home. Over the last 3 years she ahs gained about 40-50 pounds (not unusual in our family...we all have to work at keeping our weight down). During that time, she ahs also had MANY bouts with the flu--gastrointestinal. That too, is not necessarily unusual for her...she has dealt with that from infancy to some degree. However....she recently shared that she ahs to had a period in about 6 months. Though she is normally irregular....I find that disturbing. Could these be related? Serious? she is a smoker..and lately also has had serious hoarseness. She also has no health insurance so does not go to the doctor as soon as she ought to. . Any ideas? Thank you for your help.

All these factors can lead to irregular cycles - smoking, weight gain, stress, illness.
She needs to alter her lifestyle totally.
