Are Exhaustion And Irritation Normal When Stopping Progynova?

I have had severe pain and bleeding over he last 10 years as part of my menstural cycle. I ended up taking fluoxtine for the mood swings, having a mirena coil fitted and taking progynova to balance the coil. The coil has now disappeared and I have been told to stop the progynova and the fluoxitine. I feel exhausted weepy irratable and fed up is this normal and if so how long will it last?

Hi,

Progynova contains ethinyl estradiol, a natural female hormone, estrogen acts as a hormone replacement therapy for the women with menopausal complaints. If you stop taking Progynova abruptly, you may begin to suffer from some unpleasant side effects or symptoms of menopause again, that may include hot flashes, sleeping difficulties, exhaustion, emotional disturbances, irritability, hopeless, loss of happiness, tiredness, loss of interest, nervousness, dizziness, night sweats or vaginal dryness. These side effects will usually go away within a few months. But if these side effects persist for several months after stop taking Progynova, then you should consult your doctor first for medical help.

Fluoxetine belongs to the group of antidepressant medications known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) that is used to treat depression. Again, if you stop taking Fluoxetine suddenly, then you may suffer from some unwanted side effects, which is known as withdrawal syndromes such as irritability, exhaustion, emotional disturbances, loss of energy, fatigue, loss of interest or happiness, headache, dizziness, sweating, nausea, vomiting, nightmares, tingling or prickling sensation on the skin etc. Withdrawal syndromes of Fluoxetine come on within 5 days of stop taking this medication and may persist for up to 6 weeks. But, if these withdrawal syndromes persist for several months, then you should consult your doctor first for medical attention.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
