Are Dizzy Spells While Moving The Head Fast A Cause For Concern?

My husband tripped and fell the other day. Landed on his knees and hands (which had gloves). He went on to the restaurant, which was a half a block away. When he got there he asked them if they had somewhere he could lie down for a few minutes, he felt dizzy. They did and he laid down. And then he felt alright. He went on to have lunch with the person he was meeting. He had a heart attack in Nov. 2012, but has been cleared at his last visit, and doesn t take the medicine anymore. This is not the first time that he has gotten dizzy. He has these spells when he moves his head to fast, or gets up too fast, etc. Should he or me be worried? All he says to me is I have always had this problem. Is it a problem?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear patient

The dizzy spells while moving the head can be a condition form the inner ear called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). BPPV causes intense, brief episodes of vertigo immediately following a change in the position of your head, often when you turn over in bed or sit up in the morning. Your doctor, audiologist or physical therapist may diagnose and treat you with a series of movements known as the canalith repositioning procedure. Then it will get better soon.

To make sure, there would be a checkup on his heart condition advisable also, even though the symptoms (after turning head) don't seem typical for heart condition.

Hope this is helping you , if you have any clarificatons you can get back to me, if this was helpful please kindly rate my answer. Best regards
