Antibody Test For HIV Taken 8 Weeks After Exposure Negative. RNA Test Showed Non Reactive HIV 1 RNA Not Detected. Chances Of Postitive Test At 12 Weeks?

I took a antibody test for hiv 8 weeks after exposure. The result was negative , then read on the Internet that it could take up to three months to have a positive antibody test. So two days after that test I took a RNA test those results come back Non reactive HIV-1 RNA not detected. So what are my chances of having a positive test at 12 weeks .

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

Antibody test for HIV after 8 weeks may not be a conclusive one, but the Non-Reactive Antigen test (PCR) after 8 weeks is more conclusive and confirmatory that you are not having HIV 1.
At the same time we should not forget that there is a remote possibility of HIV2 which is very rare. It can be verified after 12 weeks with a rapid antibody test which can differentiate both HIV 1&2.
