44 yo female 5ft 8. 135lbs. MRI shows l5 s1 central disk extrusion indenting thecal sac, close to both s1 nerve roots. Canal at lower limits of normal. 2 epidurals, both helped for only 5 to 7 days. Considering surgery. In pain every day, only taking pain meds when absolutely needed. Mostly take aleve. I have always been active and I am really concerned. Any additional thoughts?
It is a mechanical event – causing compression You are right in considering surgery / have it earlier – before nerve damage occurs... Any other approach is symptomatic and does not address the cause...
Take care Wishing speedy recovery God bless Good luck
