Achilles Tendon Injured, Gastrocnemius Muscle Tear. Surgery Advised. Healing Time?
hi...have just ruptured my Achilles tendon and have a gastrocnemius muscle tear..the Achilles broke where it joins the muscle so I have been told surgery is not an option...have cast on and crutches ..non weight bearing..is my prognosis good for a complete recovery..how long till I am back working /full strength? thanks mick
Generally, the healing time is around 4-6 weeks in a cast (for your particular injury involving Gastronemius muscle tear along with ruptured tendo achilles). This period of rest is followed by a rehabilitation programme which involves stretching and strengthening exercises to regain the muscle power as well as range of motion in the ankle joint.
Prognosis of this injury (after a conservative line of management) depends on the severity of the soft tissue damage. Hopefully, you should get back to normalcy within 8 weeks (maximum).
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
