80 Years. Pain In Back Going Down To Legs. Diagnosed Spinal Stenosis. History Of Back Surgery For Herniated Disk. Drowsiness On Intake Of Lyrica. Advice
I am 80 years old in good health for my age I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis and I have a lot of pain in my back and the pain is going down to my legs. I had back surgery in my four ties of a herniated disk. My doctor does not advise surgery he said is risky. I am on 150 mg of Lyrica a day it helps some it makes me kind of drowsy. What ad vice can you give me
What you need is pain management. Although lyrica does help, you can consult your doctor to find what other pain medications can be added. Also lyrica can cause drowsiness and you should check with your doctor if there is any other alternative drug that can be used. Sometimes reducing the dose and adding another drug can resolve your problems.
If the symptoms of pain in the back and legs is not getting resolved with conservative management like rest, medications etc then an Epidural injection of steroid will help in alleviating the symptoms.
Even if the epidural injection is not helping you, then a surgical decompression is needed.
Consult an orhopedic/spine surgeon and follow his advice accordingly.
Hope this information is helpful . Good day
