77 Years. Diagnsoed With Atrial Fibrillation. Very Active, Healthy Lifestyle, No Other Complaints. Suggested Warfarine. Necessary Medication?

I have been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. I am 77 have a very active lifestyle, a veggy diet and do not smoke or take alcohol. No blood pressure or cholesterol problems. Dr has suggested warfarine but am reluctant to start this, as I know it has side affects which cause other difficulties. Are there other ways of tackling this health issue please?

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

True, warfarin is a double-edged sword...
However, it is necessary in Atrial fibrillation to prevent/reduce the incidence of the major consequence – embolism, which could be dangerous or debilitating.
If the rhythm control can be achieved (Electro Physiologic Study & Ablation), this is not needed...
If not, it has to be taken.
There are a few alternatives – costly / cumbersome / not such time tested / and so on....
Discuss with your Cardiologist / Electro Physiologist

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
