4 Year Old With Coughing Spells. Pneumonia? Has Problems With Adenoids And Tonsils
Hi I have a four year old grandson who about every 4 months goes through a 5 day coughing spell. After the 5 days he is better until the next time. He is on Zyrtec for a while and was just given an inhaler . We have had to take him to the er about 4 times and they say he has pneumonia . The last time the er doctor says his tonsils looked pretty big but did not seemed to worried. So my question is could this maybe be a problem with his ADENOIDS AND TONSILS.
Hi,
Thank you for your query,
As your child is having recurrent coughing spells, the following things may be possible.
1. Allergic , which may get aggravated seasonally and may be recurrent
2. Asthmatic, which is due to broncho spam and it will be chronic and recurrent
3. Tonsils and adenoid related, in this with infection and inflammation of tonsils and adenoid, cough
,throat pain and difficulty in swallowing will be there.
4. Pneumonia is less likely as there will be fever, respiratory distress and require antibiotics.
Consult your son regular Pediatrician , and he will evaluate your grandson depending on his history and examination and will guide you accordingly.
Hope i have answered your query.
