13 Year Old, Suffering From Tailbone Pain. Brother And Mother Had Similar Pains. Cause?

My son, age 13, is complaining of tailbone pain all the time. He does not specifically remember injuring it. It is very painful when he sit or leans on something. My 15 year old son had the same thing a few years ago. It lasted a long time but seems to have gotten better. Could this be growing pains? I too remember having tailbone pain for many years, even into adulthood.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.
Tail bone pain may be due to prolonged sitting.
But other local bone problems has to be ruled out by examination by an orthopedician followed by X ray of that part.
If the child is overweight, try to reduce his weight by diet and exercises.
Consult the doctor for examination and for further advise.
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.
