Question: hi there. I’m having some sensations in my throat. It’s right above or at my Adam’s apple. (I’m a female). I feel like it’s hard to swallow and hard to breathe but my o2 sats are perfect and I have no problems eating or drinking. Sometimes it makes a noise. It’s almost like there’s a flap or something there. I had a chest CT a month ago and read that a chest cat would show that part of my neck. I also had an ultrasound of the side of my neck and that was fine. My labs are fine as well. I feel like my throat is closing but I’ve been reassured by 3 drs that it’s not. I can’t see ENT for another 3 weeks. I’ve been told Globus sensation, muscular, and post nasal. I’m scared, can you help?

Detailed Answer:
Hii. It seems that you are having some sensation in your throat with some difficulty in swallowing. You have been diagnosed with globus with post nasal drip at other place. There are many causes for this symptoms. It may be due to any acid reflux as in globus, any benign or any tumor like lesions in the throat. The protocol of diagnosing anything like that is to do an endoscopy of the larynx and to see the inside of the larynx. It will help us to visualise the vocal cords and other parts of your voice box. Other thing that is very helpful in diagnosing is the usg neck. It will be helpful in diagnosing any lesions in the thyroid, and any enlarged lymph nodes that may present with similar symptoms. CT chest will not always be helpful in diagnosing neck problems but sometimes it will also help in visualising some lower parts of neck. I think you're all results has come normal. After 3 week you try to get an endoscopy of the larynx. Now you can start with some pantoprazole or omeprazole to reduce acid reflux. Drink more water. Avoid spicy food, excessive tea, coffee, alcoho, smoking as these will decrease the acid reflux and helps in reducing the globus sensation in the throat. Sleep after two hours of dinner. Avoid aerated drinks. Try to relax as nothing has come in usg report. Even in some patients, excessive stress with tension can cause stiffness in the neck muscles and cause similar problems. So follow the above advice. Don't need to worry. But try to get an endoscopy of the throat done after 3 week and review. Please also review if you have any queries.
