Question: hi I have been experiencing what my mom and I think are hot flashes as wells as blurry vision sensitivity to light changes and headaches. I’m trying to figure out what could cause these things. I have bipolar disorder and have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and am medicated for both. I have also had my Fallopian tubes removed. Any thoughts on what could be causing my symptoms?

Hi
Welcome to ask a doctor.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today. I have read your concerns.

Do you have regular cycles? Why was Fallopian tube removal done? Were ovaries also removed during surgery?

Blurred vision and light sensitivity are not hot flashes. Hot flashes occur as episodes of experience of heat for few minutes followed by sweating.
Consult your doctor to find out if it is a side effect of medications.
If you have further concerns I will be happy to answer.

I wasn’t saying that blurred vision and light sensitivity were hot flashes , I was saying I was experiencing all three. My ovaries I still have in my body it was just the Fallopian tubes removed. I did this as a permanent form of birth control.

My doctor isn’t concerned and says it’s most likely not my medicines. I’ve gotten a few blood tests but nothing significant enough that it worries my doctor. My doctor isn’t worried

Hi,
Welcome back.

If you are having regular menstrual cycles, it is extremely unlikely for you to have hot flashes at this young age.
Please get your anti mullerian hormone ( AMH ) done. That will clarify things.
Best wishes.

How should I go about getting that done? Do I need to get the test through my doctor or can I order the test online? Also what is that test used for?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

One gets hot flashes when the ovarian function decreases. This is a hormone test to assess the hormone function. You need to go to the lab to give the blood sample. Not all labs do this test it is preferable to get the test done on second or third day of your cycle in the morning. There is no need to be fasting for the test.

I do not know how is the system in USA. Call the lab and check with them whether they need a doctor's request for the test.
