Would Colon Resection Help Treat Chronic Constipation?

default
Posted on Tue, 6 Oct 2015
Question: I have had chronic constipation since I'm 11 years old. I always feel sick from it and I wish I could get off of medications for good. I know someone who had their colon resected and he told me he never gets constipated since the surgery. The surgery was for another issue but it happened to also cute his constipation issue as well. I was told after numerous tests that the reason for mine is due to having an extremely slow motility rate. Do you think if I had my colon resected It would cure my chronic constipation?

Brief Answer:
Surgery can help

Detailed Answer:
hello,
I have gone through the description that you have provided.
to answer your question.surgery does help in chronic constipation especially slow transit constipation if the symptoms are debilitating.
we need to determine whether you have a defecatory disorder. you need to discuss this possibility with your Gastroenterologist . in case you have it biofeedback therapy can be tried before considering surgery.
hope this helps
do get back I'm case you have further queries
