Question: Hi, I have hypothyroidism. every morning I am taking 150mg thyroxine sodium tablet (thyronorm) as per direction of a doctor. My problem is, everyday morning I am feeling tiered and I am not able wake up correct time. What should I do for this? also whether I have to follow any diet. thanks XXXX

Thank you for the query.

I have read your question carefully and understand your concern.

I understand that you are taking 150 Micro grams of Thyroxine everyday morning for your hypothyroid state as advised by your doctor and now you are finding it difficult to wake up at a regular time in the mornings.

1. You should check your iodine intake and if you do not use iodised salt then you should start using it.

2. Consume foods rich in iodine such as ragi.

3. Check your thyroid hormone levels and see if the thyroxine supplements you are taking is adequate enough.

4. Try to sleep at one particular time always, for example, 10:30 pm every night.

5. Do not drink coffee 4 to 6 hours before your usual time of sleeping.

6. Get yourself evaluated to see if you have sleep apnea.

7. Set an alarm to the time you wish to wake up.

8. You must sleep for at least 7 to 8 hours daily, if you are not getting that much of sleep then it will be obviously difficult to wake up at a regular time.

Consult with your endocrinologist with the thyroid reports and proceed further.
