Brief Answer:
Vaccines are proper. Next dose at 5 years.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. I have checked the attached immunization schedule. Let me assure you that the immunization is on track and nothing more needs to be done. You need not worry about the vaccines mentioned on the lower side. The vaccines like varicella and PCV are optional vaccines. Typhoid vaccine is another optional vaccine that you have opted for. The second dose of PCV may be given.

In case a dose is skipped or delayed, it should be given at the earliest and that should be enough to resume the protection it provides. As such there is no specific health issue that you need to be concerned about in case vaccines are not given on time.

Let me know if I could help further.

Thank you so much for your reply dr. XXXXXXX other doctors suggested to give these vaccinations. i was confused as two to three vaccinations were skipped as my family doctor is not in station.

1. Typhoid Tcv due in September 2016.
2. Varicella second dose is usually given anytime at this age.
3. pneumonia ( PCV ) vaccine one more dose needs to be given.

So do u suggest not to give any vaccines now? next vaccine is at 5th year only?

another question sir. kid has not gained weight (he doesn't look chubby like other kids but he is strong but looks thin).
(1) is it fine & normal or some special diet can be followed?
(2) if he is thin is it because of missing any vaccines?

Brief Answer:
Please let me know the birth weight and present weight

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. If you plan to give the second dose of the mentioned vaccines, you can give them now. You need not wait till 5 years of age.

Please let me know the body weight of your child. Also mention the birth weight. I will let you know if it is fine. Based on that I will try to provide dietary recommendations.

Let me assure you that his being thin has no relation to having missed the vaccine doses.

I will get back to you about his weight.(1) i am slightly confused dr. XXXXXXX you told in ur first reply that nothing more to be given as vaccinations are up to date. but the second dose vaccines can be given any time. my question: is there any problem if we skip this second dose? because as a parent it always confuses & raises tension when it told OPTIONAL VACCINATION.

(2) i have question about vaccinations sir. i have heard people (like elders in the family, some ayurvedic doctors etc) saying that giving too many vaccinations are not good for a child. we should worry about main vaccinatinos & not worry about the other general vaccines. is it true sir? if possible pls give a detailed explanation about vaccines. thank u sir

Brief Answer:
Detailed explanation provided.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for clarifying. Let me clear your doubts about the 'optional vaccinations'. There is a list of vaccines that has been identified to be essential for the common people. These have been marked as mandatory and are included in the immunisation schedule. These vaccines protect the child from very important disease producing agents. You also need to understand that no all vaccines provide a lifelong protection. So, one needs to identify the risks that are actually applicable.

Typhoid is an important disease to consider. But the vaccine immunity wanes off (to 50% in 3 years) and periodic boosters are therefore needed. If you are willing to do that, its fine. But a vaccine that has to be given every three years cannot be made mandatory for the common people.

PCV is another optional vaccine. It protects protection from a very important pathogen which usually affects children between 1-5 years. The key limiting factor for this vaccine is its cost. In spite of its utility it cannot therefore be made mandatory for the common people. It is therefore an optional vaccine. However, in case of your child, the child is already 4 years old and so most of the risk period is already over. So, you would have to determine if you really want to go for it.

The treatments of modern medicine are primarily evidence based. Evidence is analysed about the safety and effectivity of any medicine or vaccine prior to making it available for the people. So, it is certainly not true that vaccines can be harmful (the ones that could be harmful never made it to the market). It is unfortunate that people who are not aware of the evidence try to scare you off. Let me assure you that you should definitely vaccinate your child. It is through vaccination that a number of diseases like small pox, yaws etc. have already been eradicated and polio has been eliminated.
