What Should Be Done For Multiple Congenital Anomalies In Fetus?

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Oct 2014
Question: During my 12th week NT (nuchal – translucency ) scan, they found multiple congenital anomalies in the fetus and Doctor advised to discontinue the pregnancy. My OBGYN advised for the TORCH test and ANC Panel test and the same was done. The test was taken when I’m in 13th week. The ANC panel blood test results are all normal within the range but the Torch results are not. The Torch results are as follows. My OBGYN said nothing to worry on the report and advised to take the TORCH test after two weeks, not provided me more details on the current results.
As per OBGYN advise.I have discontinued the pregnancy a week back. The second TORCH test will be taken after two weeks as prescribed.
I am confused and scared seeing the earlier TORCH results. Is there any problem for me as per the results? I’m very much worried and stressed a lot. Is Negative and Non reactive are same and Positive and reactive are same. Pls help me.

Brief Answer:
Congenital abnormalities

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to healthcare Magic.

I have gone through your query and Would like to reply in detail as follows:

1. The good news is that noe of the IgM are positive. IgM indicates recent infection and ongoing infection which might have lead to congenital abnormalities which does not exist in your pregnancy.

2. Your blood test is positive for IgG Rubella , HSC and CMV. IgG positive means infection in past and nothing to do with abnormalities in present pregnancy.

3. Therefore since IgM is non reactive ( negative) the congenital abnormalities are unlikely to be related to TORCH infection.

4. To know the exact nature and cause of abnormalities please send the fetus for chromosomal analysis to rule out any chromosomal abnormalities related to the birth defects.

I hope your doubt is clarified. Let me know if you wish any other information.

Regards,
Dr. Soumya

Thanks a lot Doctor, for the clarification provided.

I have few more queries related to the TORCH test - IgG Positive for Rubella,CMV, HSV. My queries are as below. kindly help clarify as i am very much worried.

Is there any problem for me as per the IgG positive results in the torch test ? Should i take any medication to reduce the level ( IgG ) ? will this IgG positive results affect my future pregnancy ? What precautions i should take before planning for my future pregnancy? I was not infected by any infections so far,in that case not sure how the results shows IgG positive which is the past infection. Also, may i know why my OBGYN prescribed for second TORCH test after 2 weeks. kindly help me clarify .

Brief Answer:
Dont worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

IgG levels indicate past infection and the immunity status. These levels need not be and cannot be reduced.

There is no need to worry as these wont affect you or pregnancy.

You were infected in the past and symptoms may not be more for you to notice.

your OBGYN wants to confirm the satus of infection and hence prescribed these tests.

Get repeat test from a different standard lab to compare results.
