What Are The Chances That My Husband Has HSV2?

Hello,

I am a 26-year old female who has just been diagnosed with HSV 2. I have been with my husband for 5 years and this is the first time I have experienced symptoms. He has never experienced symptoms. We have both been faithful. We have had unprotected sex for 5 years now. We have also both had previous partners before eachother. How likely is it that he also has HSV 2? Thank you.

Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Hsv 2 is acquired sexually from an infected sexual partner.
The risk of transmission is more during an active episode of genital herpes or sores.
In the intervening period the risk of transmission is much less though the virus is being shed in small numbers, from time to time and therefore can be passed on to sexual partner.
In fact most of the new herpetic infections are passed on unknowingly during these clinically silent phases.
Since you both have had regular unprotected sex therefore there is a possibility that your husband may have Hsv virus as well.
However, whether he has the infection or not cannot be said for sure and the only way this can be confirmed is either by a blood test Or if develops a clinical episode of herpetic sores.

Regards
