What Precautions Needs To Be Taken After A Head Injury?

Posted on Sat, 28 Jan 2017
Question: Hello -- My son was with his aunt on one of those playground toys where an animal sits on a heavy spring to bounce. They both fell backwards and the duck bars hit him in the head. He seems fine in good spirits. My concern is that the veins around the injury are pronounced and his eye is swollen on the side of the injury. When should we worry and take him to emergency care?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to Health Care Magic, I am Dr Muhammd Ahmad, I have closely read your question and I understand your concerns, I will hereby guide you regarding your health related problem.

After a head injury , dangerous signs are:

1) Loss of consciousness.
2) Vomiting.
3) Seizures.

If your son didn't have any of these then it means that he is apparently safe from a serious complication or contusion due to a head injury. But usually we suggest NO RISK strategy in case of kids as they are delicate there might be some un noticed fracture in this case.

If visiting an emergency is convenient at the moment then in my opinion you should get him looked at by the doctor. Although he seems to be our of danger currently, and apparently he will not have any complication. He might get a black eye which will get better. Just do icing of the swelling he should be fine.

I hope this answered your question, if you have more feel free to ask, otherwise close the discussion and rate it.

Regards.
