Brief Answer: Do Not give steroids. It will suppress immunity. Detailed Answer: Hello, Welcome to XXXXXXX I have gone through your query and understand your concern. It is usual for children to get cough and fever for even six to eight episodes in a year. Because they used to play in soil and may place some stuffs in their mouth without knowing. Infact this may lead to increase in her immunity. Never give steroids shot at this age unless otherwise indicated in emergency. Because steroids have anti inflammatory action as well as they also suppress the immune system. This may give temporary relief and decrease in fever and other acute symptoms. But it neither clear infection nor increase immunity. That is why she have recurrent episodes of fever and cough. Thus always avoid steroids at this age at any cost. Please take antibiotics like cefixime and NSAIDS like ibuprofen or paracetamol with cough syrup. Your treating doctor may know the dosage. If the fever persists for more than 5 or 6 days, then do blood and urine tests. Hope this helps. Please write back for further queries. Wishing you good health.
