Brief Answer:
BMI more than 30 is definitely affecting COPD patients.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
Honestly speaking any obesity is not good for patient and especially if coexisting COPD is present.
But if COPD patient is having BMI more than 30, than obesity will definitely affect COPD.
Obesity causes extra work of breathing. COPD patients are already having limited lung reservoir. So they can not withstand this extra burden imposed by obesity.
So they become breathless easily on minimal exertion.
This also depends on severity of COPD. If patient is having very severe COPD than minimal obesity can also cause great trouble.
So please let me know
1. What is your height and weight?
2. What is your latest PFT report?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better.

Before i tell you the answers to the questions asked i would like to report a few details.i suffer from asthma since the age of 3 .currently i am 29.s male.
My bronchial asthma was very severe at the age of 8 to 10.i got treated by a doctor who was the ex XXXXXXX of nil XXXXXXX sarkar medical college XXXXXXX he gave me his so called miracle cure which we had to make at a leading chemist.the asthma attacks stopped but i put on a lot of weight.then blackouts.i had to be hospitalused.docs there said that i was adminustered steroids and decadron among others.very slowly they reduced doses of the mixture.from there i have generally abstained from asthma related meds by very slowly building body strength and immunity by swimming cycling.hence after 16 yrs i was fit without any attacks as such...i even managed to rep my department in a football tourney...it was a dream if you understand the pain of an asthmatic.so last 2 years i have again suddenly put on weight.a doctor at a leading hospital wrote copd on the prescription after i had gone there toreport congestion in lungs.i did not take his med. Another doc asked me to do LA PA x ray.he said it was not copd but mild pneumonitis.also at the same time i had some pustules at back of my head ....occipetal was the word my doc used.it was recurring.so he said because of obesity folliculitis may come.also i am very anxious abt the other doc saying copd and the combination of the diseases.
I am in a very confused state.
My height is 5'6
Weight 93 kgs....gained from 75 k two yrs ago.thyroid
report normal.

Brief Answer:
Get done sugar level and lipid profile.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
If your thyroid report is normal than get done sugar level and lipid profile. Sometimes diabetes and dyslipidemia can cause obesity.
And you are also having skin infection which is common in diabetics.
So first rule out diabetes and dyslipidemia.
For confirmation of COPD or asthma, PFT is needed.
It is Pulmonary Function Test. On the basis of PFT results, COPD and asthma can be differentiate.
This is the reason why I asked you about PFT report.
So please let me know if you had PFT done or not.
Long standing asthma can cause COPD in later stages of life.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
