Well hla b 27 as such is not known to cause any effect on the teeth. We haven't encountered any patient who has the teeth affected due to the gene positivity. It mainly affects your eyes, your gastrointestinal tract. At times the gene can be positive in certain conditions affecting the stomach and intestines which can have a adverse effect on the oral cavity.

I was diagnosed in 2006 but didn't have many problems with it other than iritis. In the past three years I have gotten psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis. Mainly having lots of back pain from that and I am losing the cartilage from my spine. Some intestinal problems but not to bad. Iritis, I have approximately three to four attacks a year. It just seems that within the past year I have had several cavities. I hadn't had that problem before and was wondering if it could be related to the b27.

Well HLA B 27 itself does not cause any caries as such. But yes, the sort of symptoms you are having with ongoing inflammation due to Psoriatic Arthritis can affect the normal teeth structure. Any form of inflammation causes loss of calcium from the bones, leading to it s weakness. Psoriasis itself usually affects the nails but very rarely it can harm the teeth.
But considering, HLA B 27 +ve, repeated attacks of iritis with Psoriatic Arthritis, i would recommend you to take proper treatment. You need to increase the dose of Folitrax to 20 mg and if needed may be Biological theraphy as well( Etarnacept or Infliximab). Talk to your treating doctor.
