Posted on Mon, 30 Mar 2015
Question: My Fasting Sugar remains around 200 i.e. 180-220 and p.p. 280-320. I am taking Exermet GM 501 twice a day i.e. in morning with breakfast and in the evening with dinner. Also taking some Ayurvedic Juices of Karela & Jamun. There are no symptons like excessive thirst, excessive urination, weakness etc. Please suggest the medicines dose. Suffering since last 7 years.

Brief Answer:
Please Stop all ayurvedic medications and start lifestyle changes soon.

Detailed Answer:
Dear sir, Greetings from HCM. I understand your concern. you need to get your HbA1c, Lipid profile, thyroid hormone profile and microalbuminuria done.
Based on the report we may think to change your medications or not.
As we see now the glucose levels are high. You need lifestyle modifications too along with medications. First i advice you to stop all the ayurvedic medications now.
First stay away from all the fast / processed and fried food stuff. Divide your meal in to 4-5 parts per day whenever you feel hungry. With 2/3 snacks in between. That helps to keep the sugar levels constant throughout the day. Add more of fiber rich food stuffs like green leafy vegetables, raw fruits (not juices), take very less of carbohydrates (rice) avoid sugar completely.
Take Millets in boiled form or the breads prepared out of it like ragi, bajra, sorghum, wheat etc., are very good source of micronutrients required for the action of insulin.
Take more of protein rich food, like egg white, fish is good source of omega 3 & 6 fatty acids. Moreover, beetroot juice (inorganic nitrate), olive leaves, garlic, turmeric, tamarind also have proven benefits. Say no to oils and cholesterol rich food stuffs. Based on this, with the help of a dietician, you prepare your diet chart and strictly follow it.
Physical activity is very important, play games, walk at least half an hour to one hour a day. This not only helps you to burn calories, but also to relive your stress. Music is another way to relax too. Try and practice yoga, meditation and pranayama. Some aasanas are very easy to practice and also beneficial. Quit smoking (if) and reduce your alcohol intake.
If u can follow these (have to!!) you can definitely see difference yourself by the time you have your next blood investigation report in three months time
Wish you good health. Do feel free to ask more queries. THANK YOU
