Posted on Wed, 18 Feb 2015
Question: Hi, my granddaughter lives with me and she is 29 months old. Last friday she started having some high fevers. She woke @ 4am with temp of 103. Childrens tylenol was given. No other symptoms. We assumed it was the last of her teeth coming in. That afternoon she spiked to 104. Took her to the MD and we were told her ears, lungs were clear and it could be a virus. Saturday morning she woke @ 2am with fever again 104. Motrin given. She went to sleep later that morning and again woke with temp of 103.4 took her to all childrens hospital. ER MD dx her with viral pharangitis because her spotted small red areas on her throat. Again everything was clear, ears, lungs and urine. Followed up with our MD yesterday (monday) ears still clear as well as lungs, however her bloodwork revealed a WBC of 19,000. She was started on Cefdinir 250mg. She is still having fevers and seems to be more tired today than she was. Should I just take her back to the hospital???? Please help I am terrified.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to Health Care magic.

I am Dr.Muhammad Ahmad, I have read your question and will try to help you out.

My opinion on disease:
This looks like a viral pharyngitis which has now reached it's peak, may be a super added bacterial infection is also participating in causing the symptoms now, making things worse.

Should you get her a checkup again?

Yes in my opinion you should get her a chrckup again, that is a fact that viral infections when full blown ... take 4..5 days atleast to subside, and most probably your MD or ER will also tell you to keep calm and assure you that it is normal course of disease.

But in kids so young we usually recommend a checkup if fever is more than 103... because this much or more fever can cause certain complications in young kids

SUGGESTIONS:

1- Do cold sponging AFTER recording the temp.

2- Visit the doctor .

3- Follow the treatment.

Hope this answers the question. If you have more queries i am happy to answers , otherwise kindly close the discussion and rate it.

WISH her the best of health.
