Question: HI there, I have been living in an apartment for a month now that had a fire next door and i have been feeling sick. I am 20 years old, and yes I drink and smoke but I have never had such a hard time swollowing. I had a bunch of white spotsin the back of my throat on my tonsils so i thought of strep but now they are gone, but there are a couple of yellow lumps back there and the roof of my mouth is yellow and it still hurts to swollow. HELP!

Brief Answer:
Possibility of Pharyngitis

Detailed Answer:
Greetings.

Welcome to the site.

It appears like you are most likely suffering from Pharyngitis ( sore throat) often which is caused by streptococcus and as opposed to your belief the infection which has first appeared as white spots now has spread to the neighboring areas of throat with possible pus being formed which can be seen as yellowish areas on the back of throat and on the roof of it.

I humbly suggest that you get yourself examined by a physician and get yourself started on an antibiotic drug course along with anti inflammatory drug. In my own patients i would prefer using amoxicillin and clavulanic acid combination ( brands -- amoxiclav or augmentin) for 5-7 days. You may take diclofenac sodium as anti inflammatory drug on PRN basis that is as and when required.

Other than this you shall repeatedly do gargles with warm salt water 3-4 times a day. Also drink liquids like lemon tea with honey.

This should be helpful to take care of your symptoms.

I hope this helps.

Wish you speedy recovery.
