Question: good morning Doc. we are concerned parents of a growing daughter age 19 who recently has drastically cut down her eating, she delays breakfast till 1pm after an hour of exercise but eats just one bread slice or little oats, then she skips lunch altogether and only meets us at dinner time when she eats 2 chapatis (indian roti) only but takes an hour to finish it. we believe it may be anorexia and are really shocked and she does not listen to us esp. the topic of food. she is hardly 37 kg wt and height is not even 5 ft. whereas we are both 5ft 6 in and 5ft 2in respectively. we are indians living in XXXXXXX and want to seek consultancy and treatment here. we do not know which hospital or clinic or what type of doctor to consult. Heard about this disorder only in US or wealthy nations but not in XXXXXXX please advise...

thank you doctor. we live in S.West XXXXXXX at Dwarka township. Is there no way to get her to listen to sensible advice which we as parents feel is nothing but simply eating three full meals, without approaching a doctor (ones you mention). And can you assure that she can be normalized, we do not wish to take any extreme step to scold her or announce this among relatives, friends or college because nowadays youngsters are so overly sensitive.
would appreciate if you give names/contact nos. of some of the doctors/consultants in west XXXXXXX having proper full facilities.

She needs psychiatrist's help

Detailed Answer:
Hi

At age of 19, her weight is just 37 kg. That shows the severity of illness. In that case, she needs treatment. With treatment, she would improve, but that would take time. How many months, that time will decide.

You can consult Dr Ridhima XXXXXXX in Bali XXXXXXX West XXXXXXX 0000

If you need any further help, you can ask.
