What Is The Best Time To Take Clexane Prior To Retrograde Study?

Posted on Thu, 15 Sep 2016
Question: I have been prescribed clexane 120mg/0.8 ml syringe for 5 days prior to a right retrograde study to take place in two days time (Wednesday this week. This is a daily dose and was to be taken at 9am each morning ending tomorrow tuesday with the last dose at 0900 am. I stopped my warfarin to take the clexane.

Unfortunately I have timed the clexane instead at 3pm in the afternoon. Last dose I took yesterday Sunday at 3pm . So I have failed to follow the requirement because I did not look carefully at the papers. My procedure is to take place in the morning on Wednesday so I assume that was why they asked me to take the clexane in the morning.

What is best to do :

a) keep taking the clexane at 3pm today Monday and tomorrow Tuesday which will mean when I turn up for my operation on Wednesday at 9am I will still have clexane in my system

b) do not take anything now at 3pm and leave it until the morning ie Tuesday ? If I take it at 9am tomorrow (Tuesday) that would get me back on track as it would cover me until 9am Wednesday.

Sorry this is complicated but you can seem my predicatment as a result of my own stupidity

Brief Answer:
I would do next

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
I dont think that any option would be harmful for clexane efficiency. Clexane is taken to replace Merefarin effect, and in this case, there is no big deal if you were taking it on 3pm each day. It is important just to take it at the morning before surgery. All you should do now is to take Clexane at 1pm or 2pm and then take next dosage at 10am or 11am. On this way there will be only 2 or 3 hours of "gap" and this is negligible. WIsh you good health. Regards

I was out and have not taken clexane yet. Its now 430 pm Monday if I take the clexane now can I/should I also take a dose at 10am tomorrow ? This would mean there would be some overlap since todays dose would last for 24 hours ie until 4pm tomorrow. Is that dangerous or should I just proceed.
