Posted on Fri, 4 Jul 2014
Question: a recent xray revealed vascular necrosis of the hip, there is lymphedema of the leg and hip area, are you aware of a way to treat this condition without the need of surgery since there is a very high risk of infection with any break in the skin?

Brief Answer:
Needs surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
An avascular necrosis of the hip needs a surgical treatment. Living with a disability and chronic pain without a surgery is more painful rather than facing the risk of infection.
Since she has lymphedema proper precautions and systemic antibiotics can help in preventing the infection. You can discuss this with her treating orthopedician and decide the best treatment for her.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.

Thank you for the blunt approach. I'm just a nervous mother with too much knowledge.

Brief Answer:
I can understand your concern.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Sorry to be blunt but that seems to be the best available option. A necrosed hip joint treated conservatively is painful.
I can understand your concern for your daughter.
Wishing her an early trouble free recovery.
Best regards.
