Answered by Dr. Dr. Rakhi Tayal (17 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Single dose will not be effective alone.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Just 2-3 pus cells in vagina are suggestive of a mild infection. It usually needs mixed antibiotic like azithromycin with metronidazole for treatment. A single shot of ceftriaxone can help temporarily but is not likely to stop the recurrences. It is best to take proper antibiotic that your gynecologist prescribes.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
All are prescription medicines.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Metronidazole or same categorical drug (like Tinidazole/ secnidazole) is the treatment of choice to cure BV. It can be taken as 2 gm single dose. In mixed vaginal infection, AFS kit (combination of Azithromycin, Fluconazole & Secnidazole) is quite effective. Local application of 2% clindamycin gel is also helpful. For gram negative rods, norfloxacin twice a day for 7 days is recommended. In such cases, your sexual partner also needs complete course of treatment.
You need proper prescription after consulting your gynecologist.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Hi,
Going back to your first answer, u said a single shot of ceftriaxone will only be temperal but not stop the reoccurances....
What do you mean by single shot... and what can stop the reoccurrance of pus cells and grand negative rods..

Answered by Dr. Dr. Rakhi Tayal (6 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Single shot means single dose.

Detailed Answer:
Single shot refers to a single 2 gm dose of ceftriaxone.
If you take it 1 gm twice a day for 7 days then it can help in stopping recurrences.

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Strong antibiotic does not mean too many side effects. If you have already taken ceftriaxone once then it is best to wait and see. In case you have a recurrence then do take oral antibiotic for 7 days after consulting your gynecologist.
Pus cells are dead white blood cells destroyed by the bacteria.
Gram negative bacilli or rods are the bacteria that cause the infection.

He took the dose on 17-07-16 (3days ago)

Brief Answer:
Do wait for recurrent symptoms for 7-10 days.

Detailed Answer:
After taking antibiotic, once the pain and symptoms subside but recurrence is usually seen after 7-10 days. Do watch for any pain in urination, burning, fever, etc. Do get a repeat culture done after 1 week to be sure that the infection has been treated.
