What Does This Blood Report Indicate?

Posted on Thu, 31 Aug 2017
Question: I had my physical with following results.

All was normal except

Hgb 12.1
Hct was low I think 33 or 35
Rdw 19
Rbc 3.65
Alt 26
Ast 53
Platelets 121
Total bilirubin 2.5
Wbc 4.65

I have had high bilirubin for at least four years with the following numbers each year 2.0 2.1 2.4 and 2.6. Have never tested direct and indirect.

I had three viral infections in one month. Two in XXXXXXX and one the week of my physical. Two caused extreme headaches, joint pain, fever and fatigue. The other was severe stomach cramps, bloating and diarrhea. My wife had these as well.

How concerned should I be with these results. My Dr said I had mild anemia. Most people I talked to told me not to worry but I am. My Dr wants to recheck in a month.

Sorry wbc was normal

Sorry bilirubin was 2.5 this time

One I left off msv was normal

Brief Answer:
Nothing to be alarmed

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

These reports indeed support a diagnosis of mild anemia. May be iron deficiency as well. But nothing of major concern.

The bilirubin is bit high. But as it's the same over the years, probably not of much significance. If the indirect part is high, it can suggest either a blood destruction or XXXXXXX syndrome, which is essentially benign. Even if it is blood destruction, it is very mild, non progressive and well compensated.

So overall, there is nothing to worry. A follow-up examination seems reasonable.

Hope this helps.

Should I be concerned about my low platelet count?

I'm concerned about some form of cancer due to my blood counts. Or I am worrying for nothing?

So I should probably not be concerned about that? Can the three viral infections the month of my physical affect platelets?

Yes viral can do that
