Question: I have frequent bruising and petechiae on my body(arms, hands, legs, abdomen, back, and less frequently on my face for almost a year. No injury associated and I often am not aware of them until I shower or I swim and others say something to me.
My labs from XXXXXXX 2016 :

RBC 31.4
RBC Dist/width 15.8%
RBC/mch 25.2pg
HCT. 32.4%
HGB 10.2
SGOT 40U/L
BUN 22
Creatinine 0.92
Erythrocytes 3.89

I am scheduled for a yearly H&P but now have developed increased bruising, and new "pain" which I would describe as minor but it is not normal. I feel tenderness - light pain when I touch areas on arms, legs, face, abdomen, thoracic area, back, and have increased head aches, not as severe as a full blown migraine but I am reluctant to take any OTC products because of the symptoms. I use ice for head aches. No rapid or unplanned weight loss, normal fatigue, some muscle cramping (severe) in legs and hands, some blurry vision episodes and "foggy" feeling with poor short term memory. Should I worry. I am perimenopausal. No heavy menstrual bleeding in over a year

Brief Answer:
Need to know the platelet count and coagulation tests

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

This type of easy bruising could be because of multiple causes. Common causes are low platelets, abnormal coagulation tests, vessel wall fragility, vit c deficiency and also steroids. You have provided red cell parameters but I would be more interested in the platelets and coagulation parameters.

Because you received prednisolone, a steroid recently, that could have exaggerated the mild problem you had previously. Some of the other problems you mentioned are also possibly because of steroids.

So if the tests I mentioned above are ok, then there is nothing much to worry.

Hope this helps.
Regards
