What Does This Blood Report Indicate?

Question: I have had blood tests done for year now that show elevated ALT, AST, ALP & GGT. My most recent readings are ALT 47; AST 41; ALP 125; GGT 66.

Hello. Thanks for putting your query in HCM.I can understand your concerns.

Eleveated liver enzymes suggest liver cell injury. There are many causes for the same like Elevation of liver enzymes like alcohol intake, Hepatitis B and C virus, XXXXXXX disease, autoimmune liver disease for which you need to be tested. So you may visit your doctor for these tests. Among the medicines you are taking it can be caused by Quetiapine also. So discuss regarding this with your doctor.
Also meanwhile what you should do is:
1. Avoid alcohol if you do take
2. If you are overweight or obese then do weight reduction by diet and exercise
3. take tablet ursodeoxycholic acid 300mg tds and Cap evion 400mg od

Moreover they levels are showing decreasing trend earlier they may be higher

I have had elevated liver enzymes for a number of years without any further investigation being conducted. I'm just concerned as they seem to be increasing. I have only been on quetiapine for a few months.

I don't drink alcohol at all and as far as I know I do not have Hepatitis B or C.

I am overweight (94kg, 171cm). Nothing I do seems to help. I am on a low calorie diet & exercise the same as my friend. She loses it but not me. I can't exercise as often as I'm often profoundly tired.

I'm not sick with any infection I don't think. My temperature is always low, just above 35 degrees Celsius.

Will you please upload the reports so that I can see the normal range of these tests so that I can compare

Mostly elevation of these liver enzymes has some underlying cause. So I will definitely recommend these tests for evaluation.

Apart from this there may be two causes of elevation of these enzymes in your case it may be drug induced as I said and other may be due to overweight there may be fatty liver leading to what is known as XXXXXXX (Non alcoholic steatohepatitis).

For weight loss continue with low caloric diet and whatever exercise you can do. One more exercise which I found very useful in my patients is Kapal XXXXXXX yoga. You can see the technique on Google.

Meanwhile discuss with your doctor regarding the medicines which I have advised earlier and take them
XXXXXXX disease is a ganetic disorder in which there is some defect in copper excretion and leads to elevation of these liver tests and occurr at young age.
