What Does This EKG Report Prior To Weight Loss Program Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Jun 2014
Question: I had an EKG prior to beginning a medically supervised weight loss program. The interpretive statements said: Sinus rythm boerdline T abnormalities, Anterior Leads. My Rate: 74, PR 140, QRSD 89, QT 396 QTc 439. Can you please tell me what this means and if my bronchitis had anything to do with the results? Thanks

Hi XXXXX ,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
If the EKG shows a T wave abnormality in one lead but not on the rest then it is said to be showing borderline T wave abnormalities. As mentioned in your report the anterior leads show borderline changes.

Your heart rate 74 is normal.
PR interval 140 ms is normal.
QRSD 89 ms is normal.
QT and QTc are normal.

It would be helpful in getting a complete cardiac work up including echocardiography and cardiac stress testing.

There is no reason to connect your T wave borderline abnormalities with bronchitis.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

The heart generates electrical impulses from nodes located within. The T-wave tracings are used to assess the heart’s form and function especially electrophysiological activities. Although fluctuations or T-wave abnormality on an EKG do not necessarily indicate specific conditions, it may be used to detect abnormalities and problems in the heart.

There are non cardiac conditions when the T wave abnormality may be seen.
Fever
Metabolic Changes
Acidosis or Alkalosis
Abnormalities may be detected even in healthy and well-trained people.

Doctors may also perceive the abnormality as indicative of an alarming condition only when it is accompanied by chest pains.

Hope your query is answered.
