What Does The SGOT Reading Of 43 Indicate?

Question: Hi I am ZXXXand my SGOT Test reading is 43 ( 05-34) and SGPT Test reading is 78 (15-65) ( plus TRIGLYCERIDE is 205.( 25-160) Are these ok or on a higher level and what is the precautions to be taken to bring them to normal range

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. Liver function shows mild elevated enzymes and this can be due to many causes including mild infection, inflammation and taking medicine. However this is not a serious concern. It is also raised in people taking alcohol so if you are taking alcohol regularly then it is suggested to reduce it. With proper care it will come to normal in a month.

2. Triglyceride is mildly elevated if it is 205. The upper limit is 160 and your level might be controlled with diet. It is important to follow a restricted diet and controlled lifestyle and bring down the triglyceride level. I hope the rest of the lipid profile like cholesterol, LDL, HDL are normal.

Your diet should include 1800 to 2200 kcal daily. Please reduce consumption of fats and use olive oil for cooking at home. Avoid eating frequently fro outside and include one green vegetable and fruits every day.

3. Please make changes to your lifestyle and then repeat the SGPT, SGOT and triglycerides after a month of strict diet restriction. Most likely it will come back to normal. If triglyceride is still high then you have to consult cardiologist and take medicine to control it.

Thanks doctor for replying. My thyroid ( TSH) is also 23.6 ( 0.35-5.50)

Rest all other reports are ok . I have started taking homeopathic medicine for Thyroid . What do you advice for this ?

For rest should i take medicines now or not.

Yes i am alcoholic but it is once or XXXXXXX twice a week around 4 pegs ( 60 ml) each

Thanks for writing back with an update.

1. Your thyroid TSH level is high and this requires complete thyroid function tests to be done. Homeopathy might help but the treatment results are not well known. You might take homeopathy treatment for 2 months and if there is no improvement then please consult a thyroid specialist and take thyroid treatment. Thyroid condition requires life time treatment in many patients and is to be followed up regularly.

2. Alcohol might be reduced to 30 ml for some time to help the liver function to return to normal.

3. For high triglyceride please follow diet restriction and see and it might return to normal. If the triglyceride is high even after diet restriction when you do the test after a month or two then you might start taking medicine to reduce triglycerides.
