What Does My X-ray Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Dec 2014
Question: I have written previously about my bout with a flu, coughing, xray that "suggested" COPD. My primary dr. did not seem concerned with the COPD suggestion as I have an active flu/cough.
I had been completely fine until I got the flu.
I am still coughing but, now, it feels as it is coming down my throat causing the cough.

My xray results:
My xray Findings: Lungs hyperinflated suggesting COPD. No enlargement of the cardiac silhouette. Some minor chronic fibrotic changes in the lungs. No acute infiltrate. No edema or pleural effusions.

Brief Answer:
The flu should be your main concern

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

the diagnosis of COPD is (only) clinical. The x-ray may be suggestive but it's definitely not conclusive. COPD is a diverse syndrome that encompasses certain clinical entities like the chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Bronchial asthma also interferes with COPD.
Since the x-ray detected no infiltrates or other "acute findings", you shouldn't worry that much unless your symptoms get worse.
Symptoms that indicate a severe respiratory tract infection include:
- shortness of breath
- pleuritic pain
- recurrence of fever after having subsided
- faintness (hypotension) or decreased urine output
- >30 breaths/minute
Having annoying cough, feeling weak, having mild to moderate headache, runny-stuffy nose etc are expected.
I'm not sure which is the main point of your query - you haven't made that clear - so I've given you medical advice according to my assessment of your situation's priorities.
I'll be glad to answer, any further questions you may have.

Kind Regards!
