default
Posted on Wed, 15 Jun 2016
Question: Hi
I did a check up. This included a ultrasound in the abdanomen and blood tests. The ultrasound showed 2-3 stones with the XXXXXXX 4 mm in the gallblader. The blood tests show total Bilirubin 1.1 (with range less than 1.1), direct Bilirubin 0.4 (with XXXXXXX 0.25) and indirect 0.7 (with XXXXXXX 0.85). All other liver enzymes, sugar, proteins... were well inside the normal limits. My urine test showed urine bilirubin of 1 (with limit of less than 1). Is it something that I should worry?

Brief Answer:
Explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome

Your concern is appreciated

Gallstones if symptomatic then surgery is done for that.
If gall stones are not causing any problems and you are not diabetic then wait and watch policy is applied. And your tests showed that the bilirubin values are on upper limit so its likely that in future it can cause it to increase then it becomes necessary to treat. They can be removed through ERCP
Surgery which involves open and laproscopic can be done ro remove gall bladder. laproscopic being the standard. Some gall stones can be dissolved through bile salt like cholesterol the drug used is ursodiol which can take months to years.
So you can wait if the bilirubin raises and the symptoms worsens your doctor may advise you to do surgery for that.

Hello again.

As explained in the previous answer, It does signify obstructive jaundice. The bilirubin levels would need to be repeated and if significant elevation is there in addition to symptoms then surgical intervention should be assessed for.
