Question: My 3 year old son was crying inconsolably in the morning because of stomach ache. Ultrasound of abdomen shows minimal interbowel ascites. My son in December last had the same episode and report shows Lympnodes present. Has it got to do with diet

Brief Answer:
It does not appears to be related to diet

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for asking on this platform

In most of the babies presence of minimal inter bowel ascites or lymph node is just an insignificant finding.
Presence of enlarged (more than 1 cm)and matted lymph node with mimimal interbowel ascites can be due to some infection(most common is tuberculosis).
I would like to know the size of the lymph node and also whether they were matted.
The most common cause of pain abdomen in this age is functional(without any significant pathology). The character of functional pain abdomen is that it does not hamper daily activity, sleep, diet or growth of the child. It is not associated with any loose stool, constipation, vomiting or abdominal distension. Most of the children grow out of this pain as they grows and there is no short or long term complication.
In children pain is not usually related to diet unless there is know intolerance to any food item.
I wont get worried if child is otherwise active, accepting feeds well, there is no associated symptoms like loose stool, vomiting or fever and the lymph nodes are not matted in previous report.
If the previous report shows matted and enlarged lymph node, I suggest you to consult your pediatrician for further evaluation.

I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more queries.
Regards
