What Does My Lipid Profile Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Feb 2015
Question: I'm age 71 and keep myself fairly active. I'm not overweight and watch my diet very closely. I was put on statins by my GP in Dec 2012 when my reading where _Cholesterol 3.8, HDL 1.16, LDL 2.2
My latest readings in Dec 2013 where: cholesterol 3.7, HDL 1.09, LDL 1.9
The reason my GP put me on statins was because CVD Risk factor family history of Stroke.
My readings don't seem to indicate that cholesterol is a problem for me. Because of the possible side affects do you agree with this advice?

Brief Answer:
Its fine, considering your age and family history.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being on Healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar, a neurologist, here to answer your query.

Considering your age and family history of stroke(2 risk factors),It's fine to be on low dose statins as preventive aspect for CVD. Lipid profile though is in normal range, still you can continue to take statins.

Just be careful for one serious side effect-muscle damage(although its rare). If you have muscle pains any time while you are on statins, please immediately report to your physician.

Also, please upload a scanned file of your Lipid profile report.Let me have a look.
If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to answer else, please close the thread-rate it and write a review.
