Posted on Fri, 20 Feb 2015
Question: I have mentioned my mother's lipid profile's result below.
Total cholestoral - 176
Triglycerides - 97
HDL - 33
LDL - 123
VLDL 19.4

After going through this report, the doctor suggeted her to take Rozucor ASP 10 ( 1 capsule per day) . Doctor suggested to take this medication lifelong from now on.
My questions for you are
1) Since she is supposed to take this medication everyday, Is there is any long term side effects of this drug ?
2) Is the doctor's prescription and diagnosis correct ?
3) Can we stop this medication, once my mother's lipid profile reaches the normal range.

Please let me know your opinions.

Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
Yes / Correct / Don't stop

Detailed Answer:
Hi friend
Welcome to Health Care Magic

1- Yes, there could be side effects / but they are minor and rare – the benefits far outweigh the risks / millions of people are on the drug… / if there is any suspicion, while on the drug - discuss with the treating doctor… he will assess and advice appropriately

2- The diagnosis and prescription are correct.
Your mother is in good hands.
Keep following…

3- NO – you cannot stop the medication, when the levels become normal / one cannot stop the car engine or stop putting petrol, when the car is running! Because it is also manufactured in the liver – and that is determined by heredity… life style changes have definite but limited benefits. Repeat the test in 6 to 8 weeks – may try to modify the dose- not stop it. For long life – life long medication is necessary.

LDL is bad cholesterol – lower, the better. In the absence of any other risk factor 100 is ideal for LDL-C. In the presence of ischemia, 70 should be the aim.
Keep her weight to normal / even a little less
Quit smoking, if she is a smoker
Do regular EXERCISE – say walking or jogging - 30 minutes a day / at least 5 days in a week.      Healthy FOOD is a must. Avoid saturated fats – coconut oil, palm oil, butter, ghee, full cream milk...Avoid junk foods in particular – French fries have palm oil / Pizza has cheese / XXXXXXX sweets are made in ghee.../ Change to Poly-un-saturated oil – like sun flower oil. / Include Mono-un-saturated oil – Olive oil.

Good luck
God bless you
