What Does My Blood Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 25 Apr 2017
Question: i , Biplab XXXXXXX aged 41, am a kidney transplanted patient. recently i had "constant air foration problem" with my GI system and so gone through "endoscopy" and "colonoscopy". But after 2-3 days of that, suddenly my legs started swelling and now it is 10 days over, the swelling is havoc and i need to take "lacix 40" for urination.
The recent blood test result of creatinine is 1.4. It was 1.0 just one month ago.
I am confused what happened!!
1)With that creatinine vaue should create so much swelling or that vaue is actually high but getting low because of lacix consumption?
2)whether my kidney is gone?
3)What should i do now?
*** my doctor is not aailable now and so i am seekin help.
please guide me. i am too much distressed.

Brief Answer:
Don't panic. Meet any qualified nephrologist

Detailed Answer:
Hello Biplab,

do not get stressed . being a kidney transplant patient you know that there are a lot of factors which can lead to increase in serum creatinine levels these include infections , rejections high blood sugar , high blood pressure and other kidney diseases .

Swelling in the legs can be due to loss of function of kidney as is noted by the slightly raised creatinine levels but it can be there because of other reasons also which include less protein in the blood or losing protein in the urine this needs to be investigated fully.

most important test urine routine, spot urine protein creatinine ratio, ultrasound Doppler of the graft kidney, repeat creatinine levels shoyld be done . lasix in itself does not cause renal damage. I would suggest don't panic the only way out is you have to meet a nephrologist. if your doctor is not available you can meet any other nephrologist in the City who will run some basic test and try to find out why you are developing the high creatinine levels and swelling in the legs.
meanwhile you can try to drink less water than usual which will help in bringing down the swelling

best wishes. do write in if there is any other query.

thank you sir for the reply. i would like to know about the following though i am going to do the tests tomorrow.

1) The problem started after Endoscopy and Colonoscopy. Whether that can damage my kidney.
2) my pressure is normal -- does it indicate anything about kidney rejection?
3) If it is due to blood sugar, then whether the kidney can be arrested from further damage or the function can be revived.

regards,

Brief Answer:
No colonoscopy does not affect kidney

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

No colonoscopy does not affect the kidney.

No , normal bp does not suggest any rejection or lack of rejection.

sugar control will definitely be beneficial to you.

Thank you sir.
One last query:

As i am taking lacix-40,whether the creatinine level showing the actual status of the kidney or actually the kidney status is worser.BiplabRoy
i mean-
now my creatinine level shows---1.4
if i did not take lacix, whether creatinine level would have been higher or not.

Brief Answer:
Lasix does not affect creatinine level

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Your creatinine level will remain same even if you stop lasix. Lasix does not affect creatinine level. it only helps in removing extra accumulated water in body by producing more urine. and thus helps in improving swelling of legs.

Brief Answer:
Result show rise of crearinine

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

the result provide show that the kidney function has decreased.

now we need to find out why the kidney function is decreasing. this can be found by patient interview ( very important ). tests like ultrasound and cbc and URINE ROUTINE.

once we know the cause then we should try to treat the patient. Then only we can comment whether he will improve or not.

best wishes.
