default
Posted on Wed, 10 Feb 2016
Question: Took a blood test and was told I have genital hgv1 and not hgv2. My test results are confusing and my doctor did not explain the results neither did she give me a rx for medicine. I had one bump on my buttock, which didn't burn nor did anything come out of it. I don't know what to do or how to manage this. Please help.

Brief Answer:
HSV 1 Ig G positive indicates an old infection and not a STD

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

HSV 1 infection is not a STD. HSV 1 infection is a common infection among 30-40% of any population.

It is nothing but cold sore. Your result reveals the presence of Ig G antibodies against HSV 1. That means that it was an old infection.

Ig M only indicates recent infection. Presence Ig G indicates that you had come across the infection and not necessarily it should be active. When there is no symptom then the treatment is not indicated as it will be useless in the absence of symptoms.

Bump in your buttock would not be related to this HSV 1 infection. It could be something else. If you can upload the picture in this site we could discuss more.

Not to get upset with the result. Nothing serious.

Do I have hgv2? My lab results are confusing. I don't understand. I see results for 1 & 2 on the report. I'm really scared. Also, what does 43.30 HIGH mean? Did you view my attachment? Please, I need more clarification.

Brief Answer:
You are free from HSV 2.Value is not indicating the activity of infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
I carefully went through your results. Your results clearly indicate that you are free from HSV 2 infection (Which is a STD).
Not to bother about the values and the word"high". This has nothing to do with the severity of the infection. Some people's body react to any antigen vehemently whereas some are not so. It is not proportionate to the disease activity. Relax and ignore. Nothing to worry.

Thank you so much. I was afraid my life was over. I know there is no cure for HPV, but I've researched some natural remedies that may help. They are propolis, mushroom extract, Echinacea, olive leaf extract. Would these help/not cure?

Thanks so much for your feedback!

Brief Answer:
No idea about the efficacy of the drugs mentioned by you

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back
Your result showed that you are having HSV 1 IgG antibodies. Why are you worrying about HPV infection? I am practising modern medicine. We have different modalities for the treatment of HPV infection in modern medicine. I don't have any idea about the efficacy of the drugs mentioned by you for the management of HPV infection.
