What Does My Blood Report Indicate?

Posted on Tue, 14 Apr 2015
Question: Good morning Doctor,
2 months ago I did a blood test and 2 of the tests came out high. These were GGT (serum) of 117ul and ALT (serum) of 91 ul. I never had sex with anyone and never took drugs. I suffer from REGULAR heart burn and take very often take Gaviscon Tablets and lansoprazole. I also drink 2 shots of wiskey everyday before I sleep. Since 2 months I completely cut down all alcohol and started a strict diet relaying mostly on veg (Beetroots Carrots, Onions, Garlic, Spinach ,etc.) Do I have to worry ?

Brief Answer:
Alcohol use is the cause of elevated liver panel...

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I read carefully your query and I understood your concerns.
I read carefully your test reports and I noticed that your GGT and ALT level are moderate increased.I also noticed that your cholesterol is slightly elevated.
You are reporting that you have used alcohol and that is the main cause of high liver panel and cholesterol.
So I congratulate you that stop alcohol use.
I recommend to repeat the tests 8-10 weeks after you have stopped alcohol and perform abdominal ultrasound to evaluate liver.
Since you have stopped alcohol and change your lifestyle there is nothing to be worried. Your liver panel will be soon in normal range.
Wishing you all the best
