What Does My X-ray Test Result Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Aug 2016
Question: I am concerned I have lung cancer I recently had a chest xray and the findings were of a curvilinear bandlike opacity lateral to the superior right hilum and nodular opacities noted in the right lung base, non specific, with no focal consolidation or vascular congestion but slight hyperinflation. The pleural spaces are unremarkable and the bony structures are intact. I have also had a chronic cough which at times is productive.

You are also having chronic cough.
So I want to ask few few more questions about your illness.
Please let me know
1. Do you smoke?
2. Since how many days you are having cough?

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
It's good that you are not a smoker.
In such case we should rule out bronchitis and pulmonary hypertension as Dilated pulmonary artery is commonly seen with these conditions.
Nodules are also seen commonly with bronchitis.
So please let me know
1. Do you have breathlessness?
2. Do you have expectoration? If yes then is it thick? Is it whitish?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

at times I do have breathlessness this all started because I have pain in my rib cage radiating to my back on the right side. would bronchitis shown in my blood count as an infection

Brief Answer:
It may and may not.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Bronchitis is basically inflammation of the airways.
This is not normal always due to infection.
So it may and may not reflect in your blood count.
In my opinion, you should definitely consult pulmonologist and get done PFT (pulmonary function test).
PFT will not only diagnose bronchitis but it will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment is based on severity only.
No need to worry for nodules as you are nonsmoker.
Please let me know
1. Do you have edema feet or face?
2. Do you have breathlessness or chest tightness on lying down?
I am asking all these to rule out pulmonary hypertension (band like Dilated pulmonary artery on chest x ray).
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Do you have regular menses?

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Possibility of pulmonary hypertension is less as you are not having those symptoms.
This Fluttering sensations in chest are very tricky some times.
Fluttering sensations are mostly due palpitations (rapid heart beats).
And it is commonly seen with heart diseases.
So please let me know
1. Do you have diabetes or hypertension?
2. Are you obese?
3. Do you have family history of heart diseases?
Hope you won't mind if I ask questions because this is the only thing by which I can reach to some conclusion.
It's OK if don't want to answer them.

Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
This Fluttering sensations are mostly due to hormonal imbalance during this menopausal age. You must be in the menopausal period. Are you?
And for your coughing and breathlessness, you should definitely consult pulmonologist and get done PFT.
Also get done 2d echo to rule out pulmonary hypertension.
Please let me know
1. Have you ever undergone these tests?
2. Have you ever seen pulmonologist?
3. Are you taking any medicines for this?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

no to all of the above questions. I am reaching menopausal age. I will be consulting with a specialist as you indicated but in your professional opinion you feel that lung ca would be on the lower end of the spectrum of possibilities

Answered by Dr. Drkaushal85 (11 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Chances of lung cancer are very very less in your case.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, you should definitely consult pulmonologist for your symptoms, diagnosis and treatment.
Well honestly speaking, I don't think you are having any possibility of lung cancer.
Theoratically nodules can develop in malignant mass.
But it is more common in smokers.
In your case, I don't find any risk factors so very low possibility of lung cancer.
But better to get done CT scan at present and after 6-8 months. If nodules are stable then it is not lung cancer.
Hope I have solved your query.
