What Does My MRI Scan Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 24 Aug 2015
Question: I just had a MRI/MRA done and it showed:

Opacification RIGHT MAXILLARY SINUS with relative lack of paranasal sinus disease elsewhere....cannot exclude an obstructing process...consider ENT consultation.

This has developed in the last year....should it be treated ? What causes this ? What are the ramifications if left alone...does it go away on its own or is intervention warranted ???

Brief Answer:
Upload scan images. Rule out dental problems. Balloon Sinuplasty.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. Isolated maxillary sinusitis may be due to obstruction of the sinus or due to anatomical obstructions such as halter cells. It may also be due to mucous cysts, polyps, fungal or dental in origin.

2. Upload scan images for a better assessment.

3. If maximum medical therapy fails, Balloon Sinuplasty is a gentle option for treatment.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

I have uploaded two images that may help ???

Thank you for your expertise and time. I just wanted to understand the significance of the finding and if its something that I need to go see an ENT about or if it can and often resolves on its own ??

Kindest Regards and with deepest respect and apprecation

Dr. Bhatti: I would appreciate if you kept the images confidential between the two of us and not use them for any other purpose since it has my personal information on it....this I would appreciate.....

Thank you again !!

Brief Answer:
This seems to be a completely blocked sinus, full with secretions.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. Seems to be a completely blocked sinus, though all the images should be seen ideally. The normal secretions of the sinus have no drainage route.

2. Does not seem that it will settle on it's own. You may take a trial with medication for 4-8 weeks.

3. The images are on the site. Kindly refer to the privacy policy. Rest assured that I will not use these images. This is a common finding.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Dr. Bhatti: I couldn't remove my name from the scan I sent you but I would REALLY APPRECIATE it if the site did not share this picture with anyone since it has my personal information on it.

If I need to contact someone else who runs the site and ask them to remove the picture I will do this....

I know this is NOT your problem but I'm asking for your assistance...

Kindest Regards and thank you !
