Brief Answer:
Pre diabetes. control diet and exercise

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,

Welcome to HCM. I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.

HbA1c is 3 months average blood glucose and value between 5.7 and 6.5% is pre diabetes. That means you are at high risk for developing diabetes.

Measures to prevent development of diabetes:

1. Exercise

Aerobic exercise at least 20-30 minutes a day. Brisk walking for 30 minutes covering 3-4 km per day at least 6 days a week will do.

2. Diet

Frequent low calorie food with high fibre is the key. Eat in small proportion at correct time. Avoid refined carbohydrates like white sugar.

3 main meals and 3-4 snacks will help.

Breakfast : 1 cup oats, corn flakes, 2-3 chapatis /dosa/ iddli , vegetable curry

Lunch : Salads + 1 cup rice / 3 chapatis + vegetable curry

Dinner : Wheat based food is ideal. Chapatis, oats, etc according to social preferences

Snacks: any one of following at a time 3-4 times a day

1 Fruits : 1 apple/ orange/ small banana
2. Salads : 1 cup
3. Wheat bread sandwich
4. Egg white - if you take eggs
5. Vegetable soups 200ml
6. Butter milk, lime juice 200 ml

3. Medications:

If HbA1c after 3 months is increasing, it is better to add on medications- Metformin is the initial choice.

Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you.

Brief Answer:
1g per kg body weight and 200 ml milk

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,

Welcome back.

There is no need of any protein restriction in your case. Protein restrictions in diabetics are advices only when their kidney function is affected. So normal recommendations of 1 to 1.2 gram of protein per kilogram body weight is recommended.

Milk the daily advised amount is 200 ml.

In diabetes the problem is that our body cannot utilise what we eat and so the remaining stay in our blood as glucose. So more importance should be given to take the food at regular small intervals. Regular exercise can improve the glucose utilisation and decrease blood sugar.

So if you take in small quantities and do exercise, no food is forbidden in diabetes.
