What Does My ECG Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 20 Apr 2017
Question: Is POTS is a real problem or is it a psychiatric problem? I've read articles with different opinions. Is this managed best by a cardiologist or a neurologist?

Also I had worn a 30 day monitor and they said I had episodes of SVT only lasting a short time. However, I heard the nurse say they ranged from 120 bpm to 160 bmp. I thought that SVT had to be higher than 160. Could it still be SVT with a rate of 120?

I would explain as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome back on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that POTS is a real problem, related to autonomic nervous system dysfunction.

In this disorder there is an abnormal increase in heart rate (more than 30 bpm) when standing up compared to sitting or lying down position, not associated to orthostatic hypotension. It should be evaluated by a cardiologist or internal medicine specialist first.

So, it is not a psychiatric disorder.

Regarding SVT, I would explain that even a heart rate of 120-160 bpm could be a type of SVT, based on the features of the ECG reports.

You should know that there are several mechanisms underlying SVT like abnormal automatism and reentry, and these mechanisms are usually identified by the way how arrhythmia begins on Holter reports.

That is why, I would like to directly review your Holter monitoring reports, if you can upload them for a more professional opinion.

Anyway, you should know that this heart rate could be related to atrial tachycardia or atrial flutter with atrio-ventricular block.

Hope to have been helpful!

I remain at your disposal for any further questions!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
