Question: I'm a healthy person who sports 4-5 times a week and eat very healthy. Lots of fish and chicken and less meat.
I did this the last if 2 years because of a mild high cholesterol value which I reduced and kept that level and lost 10 kg.
I check blood every year and for this year something weird came out ( at least I think weird)
My ferritin is 324 while it's stating 17-230 for men.. My hb is 8.4 while it had to be minimum of 8.5 but maybe this is because I sport too much.
I will attach my report as all other test came out normal.
Crp, lever, thyroid ...etc all normal.
Do I have to worry much about this value of ferritin?
Brief Answer:
High ferritin in blood may be due to many reasons.
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX
Thanks for writing to HCM
High ferritin level in blood may be due to many reasons like alcohol consumption, metabolic syndrome, obesity, diabetes mellitus, liver disease, malignancy, infection or inflammation.
Hemochromatosis is unlikely due to low hemoglobin.
It is important to take history of alcohol consumption.
You need proper clinical examination and further investigations.
You need complete liver function test, ultrasound of abdomen.Further investigations can be done if needed.
Proper management depend upon underlying etiology.
You need proper evaluation by a gastroenterologist.

Hope I have answered your question.

Dear doctor
I have attached my report. My liver values are ok.. Gamma gt, and the rest. I do consume alcohol only in the weekend but if that was the cause, my gamma gt would be high wouldn't it?
My crp is 1 ( so I thins indicates no infection? ) or I maybe had an infection and it was released and the level gets time until it can be normal?
Is it such a high value to do all these tests?
My glucose was ok as well. Please check the report I attached
Just a small update
I am suffering from a cough for little less than 3 weeks which is already getting better... Also suffered from stress the last month...
Could this had been effected my ferritin? I mean in case of infection, does the ferritin gets high quickly and then decrease slowly

Hello XXXX
Thanks for writing back
I had already gone through your reports in detail.
I don't think it is too high to be worried.
I have mentioned all the causes of increased ferritin in blood.
You can repeat the test after three months. There must be some benign cause of increase like infection, that you have already mentioned. Most of the mentioned cause is not relevant to you.

Mediterranean anemia is confirmed by peripheral blood smear and CBC count.Mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and mean corpuscular Hb (MCH) are also low.
In all cases of anemia, peripheral smear study is routinely done.I presume it is also done in your case and peripheral smear can exclude the condition.
