What Does A Cyst On Back With A Black Dot Indicate?

default
Posted on Sat, 21 Jun 2014
Question: I have a possible cyst on back that has grown from nickel size a week ago to a quarter size maybe bigger under surface. We think it is a cyst because there is a black dot in center and hurts now if I sit back. I have had a fatty tumor removed a couple years ago a little below this area but don't remember having a black dot the question is there something I can do at home to bring this out?

Brief Answer:
its a sebaceous cyst mostly

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Welcome to HealthcareMagic.

The cyst on your back with a black dot is mostly a sebaceous cyst. The black dot will be its punctum.

If is causing pain then its mostly infected. So i would suggest that you show it to a surgeon who will excise it for you. Its a minor procedure, done under local anesthesia on out patient basis, under antibiotic cover.

There is nothing you can do about it at home except for taking painkillers and antibiotic tablets. But that won't solve your problem, as that needs to be removed completely. If you brust it, its wall may still stay there causing recurrance.

Hope i have been helpful.

For some reason often when I try to rate the service it does not go through so I will say excellent right now just in case I run into that problem
I did make an appointment with a surgeon in three weeks but even though the area is still raised and sort of red it does not hurt as much. So if the infection is going away should I still have it removed?

Brief Answer:
yes

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Thanks for the generous appreciation.

The area still being red but not painful means your body's immune system has contained the infection but is not able to completely eliminate it.

I would suggest that you take a course of simple antibiotic like amoxycilline for five day to take care of the infection, as you appointment is a good long three weeks later. Your local GP can prescribe it to you.

Removal is necessary as it is a diseased tissue and can get reinfected again if you leave it, causing you trouble again, and its a very minor procedure so nothing to worry about.
