Brief Answer:
CKD serum creatinine 5.3

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

You have polycysitic kidney disease with chronic renal failure.

Treatment is simple.
First thing is to accept that you have this disease.
Second is not to fear from the disease.

one should fear something which is not known. But here everything is well researched and known. So please do not be afraid of the treatment.

STOP looking at the creatinine values.

We follow the dictum- If patient is having good apatite and eating well, and if there is no breathless on exertion- we can manage with medicines.

Once patient starts having breathlessness , poor apatite or increasing swelling of legs with decrease urine output we start dialysis or do kidney transplant.

In any case we can give an average of 10 years good life to the patient.

I do not understand what is your fear. Please describe in detail, i will try to clarify all your doubts.

Best wishes.

y doctor gave me the impression dialysis is coming soon, because I went from 15 to 8% function as well as adding to my medication CALCIUM ACETATE 667MG TWICE DAILY & CIRCLING THE ABOVE NUMBERS.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have many patients with serum creatinine 5.2 for last 2 years or more who are doing fine. No one can predict when you will need dialysis. but since you already have a advanced renal disease it is good to be prepared for this.

Dialysis is not a very difficult or tedious job for patient or for doctor. For patient it is like taking a intra venous drip for 4 hours.

so, how are we to prepare for future--

get AVfistula made
get registered for kidney transplant if your doctor finds you physically suitable for it.
keep monthly checkup with the doctor.

calcium acetate is a phosphate binder and is a routine medicine.
" circled the numbers " - is just a way to emphesise that you have a problem which needs attention.

So in nutshell what i want to say is- dialysis may or maynot be needed soon. even if it is needed be confident that you will have benefit and not harm from dialysis. and consider kidney trasplant if physically fit.

bye.
