Question: My Mri showed a 1.4cm Quadrigeminal plate arachnoid cyst with associated deformity of the posterior midbrain. Where is this exactly located? Will I have to have it removed or can I leave it ?

Brief Answer:
Surgery depends upon symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

The location of your cyst is deep in the brain behind the upper part of midbrain (brainstem) and anterior or before the upper part of cerebellum (small brain).

If mild symptoms (only headache), you shouldn't be operated, periodic imaging follow up is needed to evaluate cyst progress.

If moderate to severe symptoms ( visual disturbances, severe headaches accompanied by vomits, gait disturbances), then the cyst should be treated.

Treatment consists on fenestration (opening the cyst wall) in order to communicate with cerebrospinal fluid spaces. This can be achieved with minimally invasive procedures (Neuroendoscopy).

I guess your MRI didn't report associated hydrocephalus, so there is no need for surgical treatment.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
