Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM,

This is good since there is decrease of cyst size nad this happens occasionally with arachnoid cysts since these are fluids filled cyst which may grow or shrink. There is no need for any further measures. You can do follow up MRI scan in 1 year. There is no risk that such cyst can rupture and cause brain bleeding since these are not filled with blood. Wish you good health. Regards

Hi

Detailed Answer:
Can you tell what exactly symptoms do you have. small arachnoid cysts should not cause symptoms at all unless it compresses brain tissue and this is rare

Thank you for your reply Dr. Rommstein:
My symptoms are - dizziness - I feel pressure on the front of my head - tired - sometimes confused - I was told by Dr. Teu at the Mayo Clinic in Cincinnat, Ohio after my car accident that I had the largest arachnoid cyst he had ever seen in his career an I have donated it to the Clinic after I die for further study regarding these cycts. In all of the MRI's that I have had this is the first time it has deccreased in size. I was also told that if it moved one centimeter it would kill me instantley. I guess I just want to know what to expect..

Brief Answer:
hi

Detailed Answer:
If this is so large cyst and located close to some important brain structures then it may cause symptoms, but generally most cysts are asymptomatic and require no treatment. However, in your case, it seems like you would benefit from surgical therapy, but decrease in size is good sign now and it may be better to see if symptoms will pull back spontaneously.

Thank you Doctor Rommstein:
Since I am 78 years old i would opt out for surgery. The questions is how long am I going to live??? Only GOD has that answer. I just want to be able to functiion in my twilight years as this is the time when I should be enjoying life. I believe your advice is good and that the reduction in size is a good thing. I will wait to see if the symptoms pull back.

Brief Answer:
Hi, welcome back

Detailed Answer:
It is impossible to predict your lifetime:) (yes, as you've rightly pointed out)

However, I don't think that arachnoidal cyst will cause some serious consequances or futility. If your heart and lung function are fine then you can certainly expect many more years...Tiredness and confusion are common symptoms in your age group and this may not be related to cyst at all if you ask me.

Warmest regards. Feel free to ask any other questions.
